#62. Summer Vacation(s)

Well, summer is halfway complete (and summer break's days are numbered, sadly).  Summer usually means vacation time, and the twins had no shortage of that the past couple of months!

These two mean business when we go on vacation
Unfortunately, we recently had to take an unanticipated summer getaway.  On July 29, the twins' great-grandfather, Richard Heald (known as 'GP' to most), passed away.  So, we made an unexpected trip to Daytona (we visited previously over the holidays this past year).  It is a sad time, but Chris and I are grateful to know that GP saw the twins at various times the past two years.  We were so thrilled when we came back from Florida in January and Luke saw his great-grandfather's photo on the wall and exclaimed, 'GP!'.  We will do our best to make sure Clare and Luke both know how much they were loved by their great-grandfather and great-grandmother, Mickey (who knew the twins were to be born a couple months before she passed).  Rest in peace, GP.

First row:  GP and Clare, Thanksgiving '14, 'Four Generations of Healds';  Second row:  GP and twins in Door County, July '15, GP giving the twins a swing, saying goodbye at the Daytona Airport, January '16

To celebrate 4th of July weekend, we traveled (by plane...the twins' 3rd trip on a plane!) to South Carolina to visit Papa Chris' family.

Twins first trip on the 'L' to get from parking to the airport

Hanging out with dads at Chili's...a family airport tradition

Thank goodness for payphones and escalators...these two wouldn't sit at our gate for a minute!

In South Carolina, the twins spent a lot of time at the pool (it was around 95 degrees that weekend!).

Did someone say (Clare's pronunciation) 'SCHWI-MENG'?!?

Clare and Luke enjoying their pool time

Luke enjoyed swimming laps with his Great Auntie Kip and Great Aunt Angie...

...Clare spent a lot of her time hanging with Grandma Steffie...

giving Daddy and (said in a French accent for some reason during this trip) Pàpà a much needed break!

Snack time at the pool meant soggy Dorito's and popcorn...

...and even resulted in a rare hug from sister to brother!

Time to dry off!

Outside of pool time, the twins hung out with family both indoors and out.

Luke wasn't feeling well one day, so he spent some time inside with his 'TRUCKS!'...

...giving Clare some time to hit the tennis court (making Daddy very happy)

Luke eventually came around and enjoyed hanging out with his cousin, Nick

Clare walked around with ice (the latest obsession) wearing Auntie Lisa's fancy hat

Round 2 of summer vacation took us to Eureka, where the twins had the opportunity to hang out with their cousin, Keira.
Luke loved showing his cousin all of Grandpa's rocks

These two took several trips through 'the secret tunnel'

Clare took a moment to pose in front of Grandpa's pickup (aka 'the beater')

Luke couldn't stop staring, pointing, and saying 'Grandpa's truck' (since our trip, many trucks are now called 'Grandpa's truck')

A trip to Eureka wouldn't be complete without an adventure to the Davenport Grade School (Daddy's elementary school) playground.

Clare showed off her hang time

Luke took a moment to sit (he's getting way too big!)

Clare was upset we made her stop hanging for this photo!

Indoors, Luke was mostly found playing Great Grandpa Snyder's organ ('the BIG piano'...as he called it!).

Look at that finger placement...he's a natural!
This kid doesn't even let drinking a bottle of milk stop him!

Luke didn't give his sister a lot of time on the 'big piano', so Clare spent a lot of time outside in Grandpa and Grandma's garage.

Maybe she was covering her ears from listening to her brother play the 'big piano'?!?
Sissy in the garage...snacking, squatting, and standing on one leg being silly

It was a quick weekend trip, and soon it was time to say goodbye until next time.

Grandma gets her goodbyes in to both Clare and Luke;  'Bye Grandpa...thanks for letting me see your truck!'; Uncle Jason gives Clare a big hug;  Cousin Keira gives Clare an even bigger hug;  Even Piston, Uncle Jason and Aunt Leia's dog, receives a proper goodbye

Hopefully these 3 will be reunited soon!
