#65. 'Full Fall' Part 1: Happy Campers!

It has definitely been a 'FULL FALL' for our family.  The next couple of blog posts will contain highlights from some of our exciting (mis)adventures!

During the last weekend in September (remember, the one when it rained the entire weekend??), we made the (intelligent) decision to take our first family camping trip to Kettle Moraine State Park in Wisconsin.  We knew our first outdoor outing would be a major undertaking, but Mother Nature managed to add to the challenge.  In the long run, this will probably not be our favorite camping memory as a family, but it will always be our first!  Here are some of the 'highlights' from the experience. (We will ignore the low for now!)

Did you really think it was a good idea to take two 2-year olds and a hyper dog camping
on the wettest/muddiest weekend of the fall??  What were you thinking dads?!?

The twins learned how to put up the tent by watching Papa

Luke helped out by handing Papa the poles

Hurry it up, Papa!  We're ready to come in!

Well, what do we do now that we're inside??

The twins quickly figured out a tent is really just an indoor jumpy house...

...bringing some temporary relief to Daddy and Papa

In between periods of rain, Clare was able to do 'art' near the campsite...

...but the rain came back and Luke was ready to go home!

Rain, rain, please stay...

...so we can practice our driving today!!

Once the rain let up, Clare helped Papa start the fire...

...and roasted her first marshmallow (while Luke, afraid of the fire, watched on)!

Hanging out by the fire, Papa took some time to pose with the twins...

...while Daddy snapped some selfies with Clare and Luke (who's still not so sure about the fire)

Meanwhile, Trig ate sticks...

...and snoozed (when she wasn't barking at nearby campers!)

Time to cook some dinner on the campfire

Clare helped make the mac n cheese...

...while her brother maintained a safe distance from the 'scary'/'hot' fire

Thanks, Daddy...this dinner looks yummy!

Chowing down on some corn on the cob

Papa cuts some steak for Clare...the Knapp-Healds eat real good when they camp!

Somehow, we all made it through the night.  There were a few blissful hours for Chris and I around the campfire while the twins slept away in the tent.  However, it was not an easy night of sleep with 2 adults and toddlers sleeping in a 4-person (which we all know really means two) tent for the first time (thankfully, Trig wisely chose the car for her bed).  Oh yeah, and the air mattress deflated during the night!

These two didn't seem to mind!

So, when can we go camping again, dad??
